MISSION
The mission of the Italian Manufuture Technology Platform is the definition, development and implementation
of a research and innovation strategy capable of relaunching Manufacturing sectors and related industries in
the global market through the development of new High Added Value products/services, processes and
business models, securing:
– competitiveness of manufacturing industries
– sustainable growth
– new high skill jobs
– a better quality of life.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES:
The Italian Manufuture Technology Platform will develop a synergic action aiming at:
– Identify strategic objectives of the Italian manufacturing industry
– Define RTD and innovation industrial needs in the medium-long term
– Define and Develop sectoral Technological Roadmaps for the development of new enabling technologies
– Disseminate the results and securing the implementation by stakeholders
– Define new schemes and measures to support the transformation of RTD and Education Infrastructure related to High Value Manufacturing
– Provide Public Authorities with the results of its activities, to support the planning of RTD Programmes at European, National and Regional level
– Set up a strong platform governance with the development of cooperation and coordination schemes with the other European (Manufuture EU), National (other National MF-platforms) and Regional (regional technological districts initiatives) initiatives.
– Support and promote public -private partnership through Manufuture examples
– Participate to dissemination processes of related Technological Platforms

Considering the relevance of Manufacturing sector (in particular machinery and production systems) for
Italian Industry and the challenges of the global economy, Italy needs to respond to the industry expectations
with an effective RTD and Innovation strategy and related actions for development of High Added and
Knowledge based Manufacturing.

Here, below, some figures to show the relevance of Manufacturing in Italy:
– N. enterprises: > 500.000, about 37.000 with employees > 20,
– Jobs: > 4,5 persons employed
– Turnover: > 851 BEURO
– Value Added 206 BEURO 68% from 9 main sectors: machinery and equipment for production systems, fabricated metal products, food and beverage, chemicals, Manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products, Rubber&Plastics, Textile, Basic metals, Furniture and other Manufacturing industries

Among Manufacturing sectors, the machinery and production systems (investment goods) sector is
fundamental. As machinery and production systems are at the same time, products and processes, they play a
double strategic role within Manufacturing with a strong impact on the whole industrial system.
Machinery and production systems are at the same time, products and processes. It is the first high-tech
product in terms of export. It covers 20 sectors of Manufacturing, assures about 600.000 jobs and contributes
to the richness of the country with active balance of 36,5 billion euro.

Italian ManuFuture Platform covers all Manufacturing sectors. Due to its economic relevance, Machinery and Production Systems has be choosen as the first domain of action of the Platform.
